OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode)

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is a thin film light emitting diode, in which an organic chemical in the emitting layer emits the light in response to an electric current. OLED is known to give the best image quality for display and it works without backlight. Due to these distinguished features, OLED has been called as “Dream Display” for a long time. Currently OLED is widely used in mobile phone, computer monitor and high resolution TV and its market is rapidly growing all over the world.

OLED is composed of key structures such as ETL/EL/HTL, where organic chemical/inorganic compound/polymer are used. So many firms focus on new material development for (new) ETL/EL/HTL to implement world best performance currently.

태양전지 (Solar Cell)

  • Solar cell device is a key element of solar battery generating electronic flow by discharging electron to acceptor layer when the compound absorbs lights in donor layer and then converts into electrical energy.
  • OLED device generates light by using electric current, whereas solar cell device generates electric current by using light. The fundamental principle is exactly same while the phenomenon is opposite.
  • The similarity of the molecular structures between OLED materials and solar cell materials is caused by this feature of principle. The donor/acceptor materials, such as pentacene, thiophene, fluorene, C60 and Zn-phthalocyanine as well as various types of metallocene, are being actively developed to enhance the efficiency of solar battery .
  • Dye sensitized solar cell is known as one of the most efficient types of solar cell and so many researchers focus on development of more efficient dye-sensitizers to maximize the photon-electron conversion yield all over the world.
